Laser Dentistry

21st Century Dentistry has arrived with the Erbium/Yag Dental Laser.

NO DRILL, NO PAIN, and NO LOCAL ANESTHESIA (in 97% of the cases) The laser is revolutionizing dental care, as it has in so many other areas of our lives.

This Dental Laser is used for both hard and soft tissue procedures.

The Dental Laser is a beam of highly concentrated light that is delivered in short pulse through a flexible optical fiber. The wave length is adjustable and permits selective removal of tooth structure. We are now actually operating on a microscopic level, removing less tooth structure, sterilizing the tooth, and increasing the bond strength of the resultant restoration.

Frequently asked questions about our DELight Dental Laser

Q: Is it FDA approved?
A: In September of 1999, the DELight was cleared by the United States Food and Drug Administration for caries (decay) removal and cavity preparation. This followed a year long clinical trial in the United States.

Q: Is it approved for children?
A: Yes, in fact, the clinical trials were centered on treating children. It is usually ideal for treating caries in children.

Q: Is it really pain-free?
A: Over 95% of the patients in the clinical trials did not request any anesthesia. We have also see this in Japan where the laser has been cleared for over 3 years, and where we have sold over 700 systems.

Q: Can't the laser hurt the tongue, or the cheek, or other teeth?
A: Accidentally injury is probably reduced by the laser compared to the drill. The effective cutting range is a very short distance from the laser tip - only a couple of millimeters at most. Also, the depth of cut for each laser pulse is very shallow.

Q: Isn't laser radiation dangerous?
A: Both doctor and the patient must wear laser safety glasses for eye protection. There are no other harmful effects on the body. There is no long-term cumulative effect at all. This same type of laser has been used in the United States for various medical procedures for over four years.
